Backend Engineer (m/f/x)

Office: DE - Schmelz, Office: AT - Steyr, Remote
Full-time
Permanent employee
65,000 - 95,000 € per year

The Position

Every day, millions of hours of live streams end and simply vanish — TikTok doesn't save them, and creators lose their best moments the second they go offline. Reecorder records live streams automatically, with the creator's consent, on our side: no OBS, no local files, nothing to click. When the stream ends, the full VOD is waiting, and our AI cuts the best moments into ready-to-post clips. The core loop already works end to end, with real streams flowing through the system today.

We're looking for a backend engineer to own a real piece of that system — not a ticket queue, a system. You'll work across our TypeScript product backend and our Go/Kubernetes recording pipeline, building the seams that turn raw pipeline events into a reliable, scalable product.

Duties

  • Own parts of the product backend: a TypeScript monorepo on serverless edge infrastructure with Postgres, covering recordings, clips, consent, entitlements, payouts, and community

  • Build and maintain the seam between our Go/Kubernetes recording pipeline and the product: Kafka consumers, idempotent and out-of-order tolerant webhook ingestion, a gRPC control plane for consent and playback, and analytics reads from ClickHouse

  • Help scale the pipeline from dozens to thousands of concurrent recordings — worker fleet capacity, memory budgets, segment spool windows, consumer throughput, egress strategy, and retention/deletion machinery

  • Contribute to a new, greenfield analysis pipeline that transcribes, classifies, and labels VOD content to make it searchable and licensable

  • Own the operations of what you build: dashboards, alerts, error budgets, deploy discipline, incident response, and postmortems

  • Work with typed, contract-first systems — protobuf events with cross-language parity tests, shared schemas across backend, web, and app

  • Direct AI coding agents as part of your default workflow, reviewing their output and building the guardrails (tests, CI gates) that keep it safe to move fast

Requirements

  • You have operated what you built — real systems that ran, broke, and got better because of you

  • Strong TypeScript skills, with curiosity about Go

  • Comfortable with Postgres and at least one of Kafka, ClickHouse, or Kubernetes

  • You think in contracts, idempotency, and failure modes by reflex, not by checklist

  • You want real ownership — and its counterpart, accountability

  • Clear written communication — you can explain a decision so the next person doesn't have to re-derive it

Great to have

  • Experience reading or writing Go in production systems

  • Experience operating distributed, event-driven infrastructure (Kafka, Kubernetes) at scale

  • Familiarity with contract-first / schema-driven development (protobuf, gRPC)

  • Comfort working alongside AI coding agents as a core part of the engineering workflow

What we offer

A micro team (two or three people who own a whole system end to end), full remote work from anywhere with European working-hours overlap, real ownership from week one, and direct feedback from founders you'll talk to daily. You'll work with a working product and real users already on early access, with unusual leverage per person thanks to AI-native tooling and serious infrastructure — no committees, no theater, no ops team to throw things over the wall to.

Compensation

Annual gross salary for this position ranges from €65,000 to €95,000 (full-time, permanent employment, remote within European time zones). Exact positioning within the range depends on seniority and production experience with distributed systems. Depending on the type of employment and country, we're open to negotiate.
